82 pages. In recent years, global exports of rubber gloves, particularly gloves for medical use to Myanmar, witnessed a positive growth trend. Malaysia is currently the largest exporter of medical gloves to Myanmar. In 2016, Malaysia had a 71% share of the total exports of medical gloves to the country. This study on the market for medical gloves in Myanmar was carried out by MREPC to identify potential opportunities for Malaysian rubber gloves in the country.
The study highlighted positive growth prospects for imported rubber medical gloves comprising surgical and examination gloves given the relatively low consumption of medical gloves and the absence of local production of medical gloves in Myanmar. The market size of medical gloves in Myanmar was estimated at 95 million pairs in 2017 and is expected to grow to 136 million pairs by 2021. Currently, per capita consumption of medical gloves is estimated at less than two pairs. With the right market entry and distribution strategies as well as effective market promotion activities, Malaysia could benefit from the potential increase in demand for medical gloves in Myanmar’s healthcare sector.
This report provides market information that will be useful for Malaysian exporters planning to enter the attractive Myanmar market. MREPC welcomes feedback from Malaysian exporters to make this and similar reports more useful and relevant in the future.
